BID Butterfly - A Flutter of Creativity in Nuneaton

Families create a vibrant Easter art installation

Colour and Creativity Fill Nuneaton Town Centre

During the Easter holidays, Nuneaton town centre was brought to life with colour, creativity, and community spirit as part of the popular School Holiday Activity Days hosted by Nuneaton BID.

A highlight of the event was a unique collaborative art project led by local artist Ann Middleton, who worked with residents of all ages to create a striking sculpture made entirely from recycled drinks cans.
Families, children, and visitors were invited to take part by decorating pre-prepared butterfly-shaped pieces, each carefully crafted from recycled materials. With bright colours, patterns, and plenty of imagination, participants added their own personal touch to the artwork, transforming simple materials into something truly special.

The activity not only encouraged creativity but also highlighted the importance of sustainability and recycling, showing how everyday items can be reimagined into something beautiful. It was wonderful to see so many people come together, with children and adults alike contributing to a shared piece of art that reflects the spirit of the community.

The finished sculpture is now proudly on display at the Hampton by Hilton Nuneaton, where it will remain for the foreseeable future for visitors and residents to enjoy.

Nuneaton BID’s School Holiday Activity Days continue to provide engaging, free events for families throughout the year, bringing creativity, learning, and fun into the heart of the town centre.

Ann Middleton

We’re delighted to be working with Ann Middleton, an experienced and inspiring artist who is passionate about making creativity accessible, playful, and meaningful for everyone.

Ann is best known for delivering hands-on, engaging art workshops for children from Reception through to Year 6. Her approach is rooted in the belief that art can be made from anything, using cheap, recycled, and found materials to spark imagination, build confidence, and encourage creative thinking.

With extensive experience working in schools and as a DBS-checked artist, Ann tailors every session to suit different ages, topics, and learning needs. Her workshops explore themes of sustainability, teamwork, and problem-solving, all through creative play and experimentation. Projects can range from large-scale papier-mâché wall displays and giant cardboard sculptures to puppet making, weaving with recycled textiles, and even stop-motion animation.

Ann’s inclusive, eco-friendly approach fits perfectly with the spirit of LOVE Nuneaton, and we’re proud to have her bringing her creativity, energy, and passion for community-led art to this project. We can’t wait to see what she creates alongside the people of Nuneaton
